| I.
Samuel P. Andrews was born
on 8 October 1793 at Sumter, C.D. (Camden District?) South Carolina. He married
Elizabeth Shirling on 20 November 1820 at Wilkinson County, Georgia. Samuel entered
Texas 13 September 1834 with wife "Riddledy" and his first five children, shown
below. No records have been found to date of the death of Elizabeth, nor has a
record been found of a marriage to "Riddledy" - can they be one in the same
person? Once in Texas, Samuel served within the Ranger forces during the Texas
Revolution fighting Indians, was active within the Woll Campaign (the second invasion of
Mexico), and accummulated a vast amount of land while he was in Texas. He generously
provided for each of his children, money as well as land upon the marriage of each, as
well as participated within local civic affairs, helped to bring the railroad to the
Clinton/Cuero area, as well as deeded land to establish a church and right-a-way for
county improvements. He married Otelia Rahl on 27 July 1866 at Clinton, DeWitt
County, Texas, and then married Mrs. Mary Clark Dorlity (Daughterty) on 17 July 1873 at
Clinton, DeWitt County, Texas. He died in December 1877 at Clinton, DeWitt County,
Texas at age 84. His grave marker has yet to be found within the Andrews/Anders
Cemetery, located on the site of his former plantation. From DeWitt County
historians, many markers within this area have been displaced through the years.
While in Texas, Samuel spelled his name Andrews, Anders, and Andreas - all
proven to be the same person. IF this Samuel is the same Samuel as found within the
Monroe County, Alabama 1830 census (family ages match), then he also used the variant
spelling of "Andress".
